This Double Chocolate Banana Bread is the most tender and moist and is SO easy to make. It's made with greek yogurt, requires just one bowl, doesn't require a mixer, and is prepped in just 15 minutes!

Nothing fixes a mood like banana bread! This chocolate banana bread is sort of like chocolate cake in disguise- it's rich, fudgy, and so dang chocolatey. However, it's made with greek yogurt, so you do get an extra kick of protein in there, and you can eat it for breakfast, brunch, or a snack!
Some of my favorite banana recipes are these Banana Nutella Muffins which combine two most fabulous flavors in one goodie, this Sour Cream Banana Bread for a classic banan bread recipe, and these Healthy Banana Brownies that my best friend and roomie made at least once a week in college.

Ingredient Notes
Bananas: Say hello to the star of the show! Make sure your bananas are super ripe-think brown spots or even fully-brown peels. The riper the banana, the sweeter and more flavorful your bread will be.
Greek Yogurt: I use sour cream and plain Greek yogurt interchangeably in this recipe. Both create a super moist, tender bread!
Cocoa Powder: This is where the deep, rich chocolate flavor in the bread comes from. Use dutch-process cocoa powder for the best results- I swear upgrading from regular cocoa powder changed the game.
Chocolate Chips: We're talking about double chocolate here, so don't skimp on the chocolate chips! I like using semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips in the batter and mini chocolate chips on top of the bread before baking!
Step by Step Process

STEP 1: In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, room temperature eggs, room temperature greek yogurt, vanilla, and mashed bananas until smooth.
STEP 2: Next, pour the all-purpose flour, Dutch-process cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into the batter. Whisk only until you see the dry ingredients disappear into the batter.

STEP 3: Fold the chocolate chips into the batter using a spatula until evenly dispersed throughout.
STEP 4: Then, pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Bake for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.
Ripening Bananas Quickly
Are you craving this banana bread but don't have bananas that are ripe enough? Not a problem here, babe! Here are two quick and easy methods to brown your bananas and get them ready for baking:
- Oven Method: Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Then, place the unpeeled bananas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the banana skins are black and shiny. Let them cool before peeling.
- Microwave Method: If you're really pressed for time, the microwave is going to be your bestie. Start by poking a few sets of holes in the peels of your bananas with a fork. Place the bananas on a microwave-safe plate and heat them on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Repeat as needed until the bananas become soft and slightly brown. Let them cool before using.

Substitutions
- Sour Cream for Yogurt: If you're out of yogurt, sour cream is fabulous substitute! It has a similar tangy flavor and creamy texture that keeps the banana bread moist. Use it in a 1:1 ratio!
- Gluten-Free Flour: Feel free to swap out the all-purpose flour for any 1:1 flour alternative!
- Mix-Ins: Get creative with what you mix into the bread before baking. If you're not into chocolate chips, feel free to add nuts, dried fruit, candy pieces... whatever your heart desires!

Expert Tips
Don't Overmix: Once you add the dry ingredients, mix until just combined to avoid tough, dense bread.
Room Temperature Ingredients: For the smoothest batter, make sure your eggs and greek yogurt are at room temperature before mixing. This helps everything blend together perfectly and bake evenly!
Super Ripe Bananas: The browner, the better! We're talking seriously spotty bananas. This creates a moist, sweet banana bread. I use bananas that are brown all over.

Storing
- Ensure your banana bread is fully cooled before storing to avoid trapping moisture, which can lead to sogginess.
- Use plastic wrap or aluminum foil to keep the bread airtight to help preserve its super moist texture and freshness!
- If you plan to eat it within 2-3 days, store the wrapped bread at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat.
- If your kitchen is warm or you want to keep the bread for up to a week, store it in the fridge. Wrap it tightly to prevent it from drying out. Warm slices in the microwave for 10 seconds before eating.
- For longer storage, slice the bread, wrap each slice in plastic wrap, and place them in a resealable freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature or microwave briefly before diving in!

Description
This Double Chocolate Chip Banana Bread is the most tender and moist and is SO easy to make. It's made with greek yogurt, requires just one bowl, doesn't require a mixer, and is prepped in just 15 minutes!
Ingredients
- ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup (105g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (110g) light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- ½ cup (120g) greek yogurt (or sour cream), room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 medium bananas, mashed (about 1 ¼ cups total)
- 1 cup (140g) all-purpose flour
- ⅔ cup (58g) Dutch-process cocoa powder
- ¾ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (180g) dark or semi sweet chocolate chips + ½ cup (90g) mini chocolate chips for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper to ensure the bread comes out easily after baking.
- In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, room temperature eggs, room temperature greek yogurt, vanilla, and mashed bananas until smooth.
- Pour the all-purpose flour, Dutch-process cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into the batter. Whisk together only until you see the dry ingredients just disappear into the batter. Be careful not to overmix, as mixing for too long will result in a dry, dense bread.
- Next, fold the chocolate chips into the batter using a spatula or spoon until evenly dispersed throughout.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top of the batter for an elevated, bakery-style look and additional chocolate in every bite.
- Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached. Allow the bread to cool for at least 20 minutes in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Bananas: Make sure to use overripe bananas. The riper the bananas, the better! Bananas with lots of brown spots are sweeter and give a more intense banana flavor!
Chocolate Chips: Use a mix of chocolate chips for the best flavor and texture! I recommend a combination of semi-sweet chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, and mini chocolate chips.
Bakery-Style Look: Before baking your banana bread, sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top of the batter for an elevated look and extra chocolatey goodness.
